The medium purple-colored 2006 Collaboration Series IV is a blend of 70% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12 % Cabernet Franc aged in French and American oak. The wine was made by Carolyn Lakewold. It exhibits a nose of cedar, incense, herbs, violets, and a confiture of black currants. Medium-bodied and elegant on the palate, it has layers of fruit, incipient complexity, good volume and concentration, and some tannin to resolve. Give it 4-6 years of additional cellaring and drink it through 2026.

| Winery Notes: Ciel du Cheval Vineyard. 198 cases produced. 75% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc The first release of Collaboration IV made by master winemaker Carolyn Lakewold with Ciel du Cheval fruit selected by vineyard manager Ryan Johnson. Made exclusively from free-run juice, this powerful yet complex Merlot-driven red wine is achieved by the judicious blending of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The nose exhibits hints of sage, cedar, earth, black cherry cola and blackberries and reveals a rich, muscular wine with soft, velvety tannins. The fruit, barrel and alcohol are exceptionally well-integrated resulting in a wine that, true to Red Mountain form, will continue to age gracefully for 10-15 years or is enjoyable now decanted. Grand Rêve Vintners creates artisan wines that showcase the pinnacle of Red Mountain's terroir. We achieve our Grand Rêve (French for Great Dream) by meticulously matching the finest Red Mountain grown fruit with an all-star ensemble of Washington winemakers. Our goal is to present wines that compare with the finest in the world. Ryan Johnson, Grand Rêve partner and vineyard manager, oversees several of Red Mountain's finest vineyards including the legendary Ciel du Cheval. He personally selects fruit from blocks specifically farmed for this project and presents it to our team of acclaimed winemakers who craft it into special, limited production, single-vineyard wines that uniquely express the attributes of their Red Mountain origins. By utilizing individuals with prowess in different winemaking styles, we achieve world-class quality across multiple varietals. Winemakers include Ben Smith of Cadence Winery, Mark McNeilly of Mark Ryan Winery, Ross Mickel of Ross Andrew Winery , Carolyn Lakewold of Donedie and Chris Gorman of Gorman Winery. |
