From the hierarchy of wines known as Feraud-Brunel, the 2007 Cotes du Rhone-Villages (70% Grenache and 30% Syrah) is excellent. This beauty displays super fruit, medium to full body, abundant character, and a long finish.

The inimitable Feraud family, true guardians of the most traditional style of Provence and several Rhone appellations, is increasingly spearheaded by daughter Laurence, but her charismatic father, Paul, is always on the scene, with her mother, running the office. While Pegau’s expanding production should be carefully watched, the talent is certainly there. Forgetting the estate wines, there are three levels of quality and price, including a new Tetra Pak in a liter package that is quite good. There are also the Selection Laurence Feraud, a negociant line of wines, and a second negociant line-up sold under the moniker Feraud-Brunel, which Laurence oversees along with Andre Brunel. 2007 is an undeniably great vintage for the Feraud wines.

91 WS
Really shows the ripeness of the vintage, with a wide, almost exotic range of crushed blueberry, boysenberry and blackberry fruit, liberally layered with graphite, woodspice and tobacco notes. The long, racy finish is filled with graphite and licorice. Delicious. Drink now through 2011. 3,300 cases made. –JM

Description
"Féraud-Brunel is a negociant activity that began in 1998 with the partnership between Laurence Féraud and André Brunel of Châteauneuf du-Pape. What sets it apart from other negociants is that it is run with the ‘savoir faire’ of vignerons, and is, above all, a partnership between winemakers. We have selected the terroirs in the Côte-du-Rhône that we find the most interesting and have found talented winemakers who work year-round with our oenologue Philippe Cambie. Before the harvest, we work in exactly the same way as on our estates in Chàteauneuf du-Pape; setting the yields and the farming practices and closely following the ripening and sanitary state of the grapes. The fermentation of each wine is adapted to the qualities of the terroir, and when we feel the moment is right, we bring the wines to our cellars in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Following a further period of ageing, our trademark wines -- that marry the expression of terroir with a hard core of ripe fruit -- are bottled without fining or filtration. The result is a range of Rhône wines of stunning quality, truly representative of their ‘appellation’ and vintage."
