(a Bordeaux blend based on 65% cabernet sauvignon; from Champoux Vineyard): Good bright red-ruby. Superripe aromas of cassis, cocoa powder, sandalwood and nutty oak. Supple, creamy, full and deep, with lush flavors of red fruits, spices and sandalwood given shape by underlying minerality. The big, ripe tannins coat the palate and front teeth on the very long, rich finish. 94 points

Sourced entirely from the Champoux Vineyard, this Bordeaux-style blend is two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon. Yummy from the first sniff to the last sip, it’s packed with juicy berries and cassis, gracefully wrapped in layers of black olive, toast, clean earth and dark chocolate. Tannins are ripe and smooth.

The Andrew Will 2009 Sorella represents yet another blend of Bordelais cepages from Champoux Vineyard, in this instance 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. The Cabernet Sauvignon for this cuvee routinely tends toward a mix of blocks quite distinctive from whatever Cabernet Sauvignon goes into a given vintage of his vineyard-designated Champoux, explains Camarda. Bitter herbal concentrate, cedar, juniper berry, and cassis make for a metaphorically dark and brooding cast, with hints of vanilla, nutmeg, and chocolate complementing the sweetly-ripe but not superficially sweet dark berry elements on a texturally plush palate. As one would hope, there is a sense of energy as well as persistent primary juiciness to this bottling’s multifaceted finish. It should be worth following for a decade.

| Winery Notes: This wine has a full, beautiful nose with massive structure. There are mineral-like qualities in both the nose and finish, along with scents of deep, recessive fruit and licorice that deliver fully on the palate. The wine’s intensity and elegance is highlighted by its rich layering of sweetness and silky tannins. Composition: 65%, Cabernet Sauvignon 23%, Merlot 7%, Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot Vineyard: Champoux Vineyard Appellation: Horse Heaven Hills |
