The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is rich, deep and resonant. It shows fabulous depth and richness, with seemingly endless layers of fruit that caress the palate. Dark red cherries, savory herbs, tobacco and licorice linger on the textured, creamy finish. This is another terrific effort from Argiano. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2027.

A youthful, oak-driven Brunello that needs more time to integrate. Ripe, plummy fruit shows chewy, rich density, then folds in blackberry, cherry, spice, leather and tobacco. Still tight in the mouth.

Mid ruby with broad orange rim. Subdued nose. Rather closed on the palate too. Very slow. Powerful, grainy tannin. So slow! Brooding concentrated fruit on the finish. Long. Monolithic. (WS) Rated 16.5/20
