The 2010 Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard shows the juiciness that is typical of this site in the Santa Lucia Highlands. It is the most extroverted of the three 2010 Pinots I tasted from Capiaux. Ripe red berries, cherries, rose petals and spices wrap around the vinous finish. As good as this is, I miss the energy of the best 2010s here. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016.
Sean Capiaux is probably best known for the stunning wines he makes at O-Shaughnessy on Howell Mountain. The Pinots he makes for his own label are equally worthy of attention. Capiaux crafts bold, juicy Pinots long on personality. by Antonio Galloni, Issue #199, February 2012 --The Wine Advocate

Backward, tight nose hints at black fruits, pepper, fresh herbs and spices. Beefy and rather powerful but slow to unfold, with a slightly tart quality and firm acidity dominating the wine today. Very young and unevolved but there's very good texture here. This will need at least three or four years to reveal its personality. There was less problem with sunburned grapes down here, noted Capiaux, but it's a warmer vineyard to begin with. 90(+?) points

| Winery Notes: 2010 Gary’s Vineyards has a deep ruby color and a dark red core. Cranberries, currants, sage, maraschino cherry, hibiscus flower, cream soda and brown sugar aromas abound from the glass in this powerfully aromatic wine. Warm raspberry pie, pomegranate, assai berry and bright cherry flavors intertwined with spicy sweet vanilla oak followed by silky tannins that coat the mouth with a full and long finish. Appellation: Santa Lucia Highlands Vineyard: 100% Garys' Production: 294 cases |
