Angels Landing Wines
Brown Derby first picked up the Angels Landing wines back in 2009, with the release of the 2007 vintage Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. When we first tasted that wine, we could simply not believe how much quality was in a bottle of wine at this price point – “amazed” is the word that would sum it all up. To make a long story short, we bought all we could get our hands on and sat back and watched as one happy customer after the next walked out with case upon case of Angels Landing Cabernet. It was a very strong debut for what soon became our top-selling wine ever and remains in the top ten sellers to this day!
The 2009 Angels Landing Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is the most recent vintage to roll in and it maintains the legacy of over-delivering character and quality for the money. We’ve placed the wine in blind tastings against other Cabs from the region that sell for two-to-three times as much and have consistently picked the Angels Landing Cabernet as a winner in flavor – then when the wines unveil and it becomes clear that a $20 wine has trounced big-name competitors, the wine sells itself!
Angels Landing is more than just a fantastic Cabernet value as they also produce a very tasty Merlot from Napa Valley fruit that compares favorably to some of the most famous labels in California! Although California Merlot has seen some setbacks in popularity over the past decade (thanks, Sideways!), the wine remains strongly entrenched in vineyard sites as a blending wine and, as in this case, can stand on its own merits when produced in a classic style. The 2010 Napa Valley Merlot has great character and charm and nicely fills in that gap when you want a wine with some substantial body but don’t want to go all in with a Cabernet.
Angels Landing has rounded out the “Big Three” of California Reds with the release of their Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. The 2010 Angels Landing Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir has really upped the ante for Pinot Noir in the under-$20 price range. It has all the classic Sonoma Coast character, with plenty of ripe cherry and black currant fruit delivered with silky-smooth texture and a lengthy finish that will leave you ready for “just one more” sip, time after time!
Across the board, the Angels Landing has been one of our best-selling brands of all time and remains a line of wines that our staff firmly stands behind as a solid value. The proof is in the bottle – pull some corks and you’ll know why we are thrilled to carry Angels Landing wines!
